Today my high school marching band career officially ended and with it, my era of documenting the experience. I would have never found my love for filming if it weren't for this activity, so I feel I owe it something; I plan to make a film about marching band as a whole very soon.
Marching band was a very different experience for me because of the filming I did within it. I love the idea of getting a bundle of random, unscripted footage throughout a day and then figuring out how to present it in the end. These video blogs really taught me how to be creative with what I had and to make the most out of a few videos. If you watch all the vlogs I have on youtube from the first to the last, my growth in putting together these impromptu films is evident and is something I am proud of. These videos not only capture my growth as a filmmaker, but also capture memories that are very dear to me. The last FHS Band Vlog was finished today in which we performed at a NFL stadium. I will miss the experience very much. Here it is.

I have always seen stop-motion filmmaking as an art form in and of itself; untouchable in a way. It seemed so meticulous and difficult to me that I dared not to try it, but this weekend a few of my friends and I decided to try this craft for a psychology project in the name of being creative.
AP Psychology is on of my favorite classes this year and my teacher really appreciates creativity, so I try to go all out for her projects. I really wanted to top my previous psychology project, so my group and I experimented with stop-motion. Our prompt was to make an PSA video about the harms of certain drugs, so we used pill bottles and tic-tacs as our "pills" and spelled out words necessary for our informational film. It took us a while to complete, but I had a blast doing it and the final product came out surprisingly well. Watch it here! Through this short experience we didn't have a specific person to guide us on how to do anything, but I believe that benefitted me as a creator. It taught me to go with my instincts and figure out the best way to go about things. I find that there is no right or wrong when it comes to filmmaking and it is necessary to discover how I figure things out as an individual. I really had no idea what a Capstone project was until the beginning of this year and am still figuring it out for myself. To me, it is an opportunity do something I would not normally do. While I do enjoy making videos on occasion, this project gives me an incentive to constantly be creative and routinely put that creativity out to the world. I am very excited to begin and find my groove.
Right now the main idea for my project is that I will create a short film once a week about anything I can think of: my hobbies, thoughts, etc. For my fieldwork at the end of the year I am hoping to create a longer film about senior year as a whole and what high school meant to me. Through the year I will have a mentor, Laurisha Cotton, helping me out and giving me advice. Laurisha is a friend of mine and storyteller/filmmaker. Stay tuned for some more posts as I begin my project! Hello, reader! I am so excited to begin my project. To begin, I would like to tell you a bit about myself.
